About Quentin
The United States Pony Clubs, Inc., develops character, leadership, confidence and a sense of community in youth through a program that teaches the care of horses and ponies, riding and mounted sports.
Are you horse-crazy in Central PA and interested in learning new riding and horsemanship skills, meeting new friends, and and having fun?
Quentin Pony Club has so much to offer: mounted riding instruction, unmounted horsemanship, camps, clinics, team rallies... In many different disciplines: show jumping, dressage, eventing, tetrathlon, polocrosse, quiz and many others like fox hunting, vaulting and western riding.
Pony Club members start at about 6 years of age and graduate at age 25. Currently, Quentin Pony Club has a very active membership of about 21 members ranging in age from 12 to 23. A Horsemaster's Program is also available for adults that would like to take part in Pony Club instruction and competitions. You don't need to own a pony or horse to join, but should have access to one to take full advantage of the mounted activities.
Each Pony Clubber joins as an unrated member and has the opportunity to progress through the Pony Club Certification rating system. Certifications are how members show their progress through levels of riding and horse knowledge. Members progress at their own pace, with each level requiring an increasing depth of knowledge and skill; starting with beginner skill at D-level, all the way up to the A-level skill of a professional horseman.
Members have the opportunity to participate in monthly, mounted and unmounted meetings, as well as occasional clinics and rallies. Instructional activities are based on the USPC "Standards of Proficiency" designed to progress members through the Certifications. All instruction is done by qualified Pony Club instructors, many of whom are graduates of Pony Club. In addition to monthly meetings, members can participate in Regional Rallies. Rallies are fun, team oriented competitions where parents/sponsors cheer and encourage, but do not participate.
QPC unmounted instruction includes feeding, veterinary care, shoeing and other horse management topics. We often invite guest speakers such as local veterinarians and farriers! QPC Mounted instruction and clinics cover one of the many disciplines of USPC. Many of our guest clinicians are Olympians or internationally known!
Most club meetings take place at Bowcrest Farm in Hummelstown, PA which offers the club access to an indoor arena, outdoor arena, cross country schooling, and stalls when needed.
As a non-profit volunteer run organization, parents/sponsors play an important role in Quentin Pony Club. Our club needs and expects parents/sponsors to actively participate to help the club run smoothly. There are many opportunities for volunteering such as: organizing or assisting with meetings & activities, fundraising, volunteer or chaperone at regional rallies. No experience needed!
USPC Pony Clubs and Riding Centers are assigned to one of 41 geographical regions, which are administered by a volunteer Regional Supervisor (RS) and other appointed and elected officers. Regions offer additional activities and opportunities for members and support for the club and center leaders under their administration.
Quentin Pony Club is part of the Maryland Region.
